The dermoscopic diagnosis of pigmented melanocytic nevi relies on the assessment of 4 main criteria:

5 Lesions present in a patient in the sixth to eighth decade of life as a pigmented and thickened area of pigment on the lower eyelid with irregular borders. 10,18 In any patient with a pigmented lesion, biopsy should be considered. • The congenital eyelid nevus is a special category with implications for malignant transformation. • With time, slow increased pigmentation and slight enlargement can occur. • An acquired nevus generally becomes apparent between the ages of 5 and 10 years as a small, flat, lightly pigmented lesion Congenital Nevus •The nevus is Esmaeli B, Youssef A, Naderi A, et al. Great care needs to be taken to maintain the anatomic integrity of the smooth contour of the lid margin, eyelashes, and the tear drainage system (punctum and canaliculi) when performing surgery in this … Continue reading Benign Eyelid Lesions Patient 2: A 41-year old male presented in our department with a divided pigmented nevus on his left eye involving the upper and lower lid laterally. The lesion had gradually increased since birth.

An eyelid lesion may be pigmented or colored. Other types of benign eyelid lesions include seborrheic keratoses, papillomas, nevus, hemangioma, actinic

Sometimes, there is a minimal (less than one percent) risk for nevus to grow into malignant melanoma so these lesions should be evaluated by an eye doctor. Divided nevus, which is also known as "kissing nevus," "split ocular nevus" and "panda nevus" is a rare congenital dermatological abnormality that occurs on opposing margins of upper and lower eyelids. There is a paucity of literature on this rare anomaly, with most knowledge from this disease process derived from isolated case reports and series. We report four patients presenting with rare synchronous upper- and lower-eyelid naevi. The distributions and appearances of these naevi resemble the distinctive periorbital pigmentation of the panda. The possible embryological origin of this naevus and an approach to management are discussed. 2020-01-05 Abstract.

Pigmented nevus eyelid

Pigmented birthmarks.

Occasionally they may extend deep into the eyelid tissues. The finding of coarse dark hairs is not unusual. As the raised component increase the nevus sinks into the dermis and becomes dome shaped, sessile, verrucous, or even polypoid.
